For which condition is antibiotic prophylaxis NOT recommended?
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Mitral valve prolapse without regurgitation
Per AHA 2007 guidelines, mitral valve prolapse WITHOUT regurgitation does NOT require antibiotic prophylaxis. Only conditions with highest risk of adverse outcomes from IE warrant prophylaxis: prosthetic valves, prior IE, certain congenital defects. MVP WITH regurgitation previously required prophylaxis but no longer does under current guidelines.
