All of the following can be treated with Stainless Steel Crowns EXCEPT:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: D. Infraoccluded molar
Infraoccluded molar (D) is the EXCEPTION — SSCs should NOT be placed on infraoccluded teeth. An infraoccluded (ankylosed) primary molar is fused to alveolar bone and will not exfoliate normally. Placing an SSC on an ankylosed tooth maintains a retained tooth that can interfere with permanent tooth eruption, cause tipping of adjacent teeth, and create local alveolar bone deficiency. The correct management of a significantly ankylosed molar is usually EXTRACTION, not restoration.
• SSC indications (A, B, C): Post-pulpotomy/pulpectomy (most common indication), large/multisurface caries, hypoplasia, bruxism, rampant caries, when proper isolation is impossible for resin restorations, and patients requiring GA.
